The AICM Protocol

AICM focuses on keeping our patients and clients well through targeted nutritional strategies, tailored hormone balancing, and innovative therapeutics, and adding traditional prescription medicines only when necessary. The process starts with an initial consultation with our physician. During that time, the client gets the opportunity to share in detail their medical concerns, health history, and health goals; based on that information, a Vibrant Health Investment Program (VHIP)  is created. This consists of a full body evaluation in pursuit of the root cause of the stated health issues. If there are no presenting complaints, then a Life phase-specific prevention VHIP is created.

All results are reviewed in detail by Dr. Salter prior to the follow up consultation. Then, at that visit, Dr. Salter combines the findings of the full body evaluation and bioenergetic analysis to create a tailored, mutually acceptable plan. In our AICM model, the key to success is the dynamic interaction that develops through mutual commitment to the goals of the plan. This process is facilitated by regular feedback through ongoing direct physician-client communication. Further, we offer adjunct support and follow up from our wellness coach. After an interval of time, our standard procedure calls for repeat testing of pertinent abnormal findings; this ensures that the recommended protocol is achieving the expected outcome.

Evidence-based Wellness Outcomes

The term “concierge medicine” is not a new one. It is an approach that delivers health care in a convenient manner. The physician takes time to get to know the patient and care is delivered in a way that is comprehensive and unhurried. In short, the patient receives time and attention. This approach reduces medical errors and improves patient outcomes. Patients can expect:

  • 24/7 direct physician access
  • A comprehensive annual physical
  • Office visits that allow time for questions, concerns, lifestyle counseling, proper use of prescription medicines, evaluation of potential drug-drug interactions
  • Health research pertaining to their unique issues
  • Same day appointments
  • Prescriptions  that are sent directly to the pharmacy
  • Coordination of care with specialists

At The Centre for Vibrant Health and Wellness, Dr. Salter’s unique, new concept of Advanced Integrative Concierge Medicine, (AICM) introduces a new practice model where the combination of traditional medicine, functional medicine, integrative medicine, plus chiropractic, naturopathy are delivered in a personalized way during the patient encounter.

AICM is personalized, thorough, proactive and effective. This is in contrast to the traditional sickness model of quickly treating various symptoms as they appear without addressing the underlying cause.

Dr. Salter’s AICM goes far beyond the traditional sickness approach as well as the traditional Concierge approach in several ways: first by incorporating the principles of Functional Medicine. Dr. Salter is a member of the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and is certified by Functional Medicine University. This approach is grounded in the paradigm of food as medicine, and also addresses detoxification, gastrointestinal health, hormone balance, lifestyle, therapeutic nutritional supplements and mind-body strategies. In addition to evaluating and treating patients through the “eyes” of Functional Medicine, Dr. Salter’s training as a British Osteopath and an American Chiropractor also allows her to evaluate patient’s issues in the context of those paradigms.

One of the operating principles in Osteopathy is “structure governs function”, and one of the main operating principles in Chiropractic is that the body’s innate healing ability is influenced by modulation of the nervous system. The cranium, spine, joints, connective tissue, and muscles, are interconnected through an extensive, complex network of fascia that contains blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves. Addressing this system, especially the autonomic nervous system through Chiropractic and Osteopathic approaches is essential to overall health and well-being.

“The body has the ability to heal itself, if given the right conditions” is the operating mantra of Naturopathy. In addition to the layers of Functional Medicine, Osteopathy, and Chiropractic, Dr. Salter’s AICM program also utilizes the principles and practices of Naturopathy. Modalities such as proper breathing & relaxation, dry brushing, hydrotherapy, therapeutic diets, aromatherapy, laughter medicine, and music therapy are interwoven throughout the therapeutic process.

This whole approach is what AICM is all about. It focuses on the unique characteristics of the individual person based on the interaction of mind, body, spirit and community. This approach, regards the patient as an active partner who takes personal responsibility for their health; it is an evidence-based approach using multiple sources of information to integrate the best therapy for patients, be it conventional or alternative.

It is well known that complications from the proper prescribing of medications is in the top 5 causes of death in the US. So minimizing the use of prescription medicines is another goal of Dr. Salter’s AICM program.

Dr. Salter’s AICM goes far beyond exercise and eating healthy foods. She utilizes innovative diagnostic technologies that quantify or measure, modulate, and then monitor key biomarkers of health and wellness.

“I was at high risk for breast cancer. I did regular mammograms to be proactive. The last one was read as macrocalcifications which is considered benign, and so a 6 month follow up was recommended. Dr. Salter asked me to do a breast thermal imaging (BTI) as part of my proactive comprehensive breast health program. She said if the BTI was normal, she would be fine with a repeat mammogram in 6 months. The BTI was n’t normal. She sent me for a MRI. That is when they found invasive breast cancer for which I was then treated with surgery and chemotherapy .

That was more than 5 years ago. I am so grateful that Dr. Salter was able to use Breast Thermal Imaging (BTI) which lead to the eventual detection of my breast cancer, particularly when the conventional methods failed to do so.

Vibrant Health Investment Programs

  • Better Immune System Health
  • Better Lung Health
  • Better Kidney Health
  • Better Brain Health –  Focus is on Mild Cognitive Impairment, Alzheimer Dementia, Anxiety, Depression

I was doing Advanced Integrative Concierge Medicine with Dr. Salter before she officially called it that. I felt fine. She recommended thermal imaging in addition to standard imaging as part of my comprehensive breast health program. I paid for it out of pocket. She said that it was slightly abnormal. She had me do some deliberate lifestyle changes for breast health along with additional standard diagnostic breast tests. She said if the thermal imaging stayed the same or got even slightly better we would be on the right track. But it didn’t. It got slightly worse. I still felt fine. Even though the standard diagnostic breast tests were normal, she explained that thermal imaging evaluates function and that it should have improved with everything that I had done. That is when she ordered the MRI and that is when they found the localized lung cancer. It had probably been there for sometime. I had quit smoking years ago and didn’t have any symptoms, not even a cough. She consulted an excellent cardiothoracic surgeon at Washington University, who skillfully removed the cancer. That was more than 5 years ago. I am on my personalized Vibrant Health Investment Program with no signs of lung cancer. I feel that Dr. Salter’s AICM saved my life and for that I will be forever grateful.”

Not sure ongoing Concierge Medicine is what you need? The following are available as independent healthcare options.

Bird’s Eye View Programs

A personalized VHIP can also be done as a one-time Bird’s Eye View Program. It is a diagnostic and therapeutic program that targets a specific body system. It is combined with a day pass to the RejuveNew Med-Spa to Relax, Revive and Rejuvenate; this program does not involve ongoing care. These are organ-system focused diagnostic consultations offered “outside” of the ongoing Concierge Programs for specific patient concerns with respect to bone, brain, breast, heart, or lung health. After the targeted diagnostic and lab tests are done, a 120 minute consultation, exam and review of findings and a targeted bioenergetic analysis is scheduled. Upgrading to a full VHIP of ongoing care is optional.
